  • HR 2421: Clean Water Restoration Act
HR 2421, The Clean Water Restoration Act, is really a massive Federal land and water power grab. It will use "wetlands" to take control over every farm, ranch, and piece of private property with any water on it or even if you only engage in activities that might affect water.

It expands the authority of the Federal government under the Federal Water Pollution Control Act of 1972 to include all waters of the U.S. and activities affecting these waters.

In the words of Reed Hopper of Pacific Legal Foundation, lead attorney in a landmark U.S. Supreme Court victory, "...this bill pushes the limits of federal power to an extreme not matched by any other law, probably in the history of this country."

  • Hearing on the 35th Anniversary of the Clean Water Act
On Thursday, October 18 there is a hearing on the 35th Anniversary of the Clean Water Act, not on HR 2421 specifically, although it will certainly be a focus (but not the only focus) of the hearing. NAR is not testifying, but they are sending a written statement as part of the larger Waters Advocacy Coalition (WAC), of which we are members, and which opposes HR 2421. The WAC is also sending a document describing all of the successes that have occurred under the current CWA.

Res. 25, expresses the sense of Congress that it is the goal of the United States that, not later than January 1, 2025, the agricultural, forestry, and working land of the United States should provide from renewable resources not less that 25 percent of the total energy consumed in the United States and continue to produce safe, abundant, and affordable food, feed and fiber.  Read Full Article and Press Release>
