Course Description: The primary focus of the course will be laws governing real property rights and interests, (including the possession, use, encumbrance and conveyance of real property). Other topics will include: legal elements of real property; laws/ methods used in recording instruments; transference of title; rights associate with real estate ownership; elements of real estate contracts; deeds and mortgages; restrictions on land use; title insurance and title examination; the closing process; tax implications or real estate transaction land use planning; environmental concerns.

 

*This course counts as 16 elective contact hours towards the Accredited Land Consultant (ALC) designation or the ALC Advanced. 
 
About Online Classroom Delivery:  The virtual classroom allows for assignments to be posted, for asynchronous interaction with students and the professor, for questions to be posed, and for exams to be completed.  Students will have a month to complete this 24/7 on-demand course. 
 
The classroom is easy to negotiate and support will be available 24/7 to assist.
 
One can complete the course at his/her own rate on demand—anytime.  The interaction takes place when one enters the classroom and reads the discussions and responds to others.  The assignments are posted per week.  However, one does not have to wait to the week that an assignment is due to participate and complete the assignments.
 
Course Materials:  Students will need a computer with high speed internet.  No textbook is required.  Participants who would like supplemental reading materials may purchase an electronic textbook in the online classroom.
 
About the Professor: Kurt Stanberry, Esq. is a Professor of Legal Studies at the College of Business at the University of Houston Downtown and an attorney. He is a graduate of Yale University and holds BA, MBA, and JD degrees. He has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, two supplemental textbooks, and a variety of professional practice manuals. He regularly teaches continuing education seminars for professionals in the fields of accounting, finance, energy and real estate. His primary areas of research include business/ employment law, real estate law, negotiations, and ethics. He is the 2011/12 and 2013/14 recipient of the Professional Land Management Endowed Faculty Chair Award. 
 

The Auction Tool HYBRID Course

Time:  Self-study, anytime with four optional instructor led phone conferences

Course Summary:  Auctions are a key sales tool in the Land Market. It is a tool that can bring the desired price point for the buyer and for the seller. This 8-hour course, provides an overview of the auction method of marketing real estate. The areas covered will be the growth and new image of the auction industry's niche, how auction firms work with sellers in marketing and selling property at auctions, and how those on the seller or buyer side can partner with auction firms. This course is organized in four modules: Real Estate Auctions: The Opportunity; Analyzing Sellers, Properties, and Markets; Proposal to Closing, and Getting Started in Real Estate Auctions. (8 contact hours). 
*This course counts as 8 contact hours toward earning the Accredited Land Consultant designation. 
 
Course Tools: Computer; phone for learning conferences; course manual
 
Course Delivery: This course combines independent study (student's will receive a self-study manual electronically and may print a hard copy if they wish) that is done at any time and at any place with the opportunity to interact with the instructor during TWO phone lectures held once a week. A PowerPoint will be shown as the phone lectures are being presented in real time by the instructor. Phone lectures are optional but attendance is highly suggested.

Course Exam
  • The course exam will be available after the final instructor conference call. 
  • RLI staff will provide exam access information to the registered students.
  • Students will have 90 minutes in which to complete the exam 
  • Students who successfully complete the exam will receive an RLI certificate of successful completion listing 16 contact hours. 
Note: RLI does not issue continuing education units. Questions regarding CE credits should be directed to the organization issuing the credits i.e. a local or state board.   
 
About the Instructor:  Sam Kain, ALC brings over 25 years of land experience to his students. Currently the Regional Sales Manager- Central Region for Farmers National Company, he promotes and assists real estate activity in Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.  Sam has served on the Famers National Company Board of Directors from 2009-2012, Chair of the Land Use, Property Rights & Environmental Forum for NAR, and has served as the President of the REALTORS® Land Institute in 2005. He has been awarded the Land REALTOR® of America from the REALTORS® Land Institute.

WHAT IS A HYBRID COURSE?        
An RLI hybrid course is a blend of independent study with phone instruction.        

     
HOW DO I RECEIVE THE MATERIALS?
RLI will supply an electronic copy of the course manual to all registrants via email. 


HOW WILL I GAIN ACCESS TO THE COURSE EXAMINATION?
The students will be given access to the electronic examination on a specific day and for a 90-minute time period. The completed examination will be submitted to the RLI Director of Education. Specific instructions will be provided. 


DO THE HYBRID/ONLINE COURSES COUNT TOWARD THE ALC DESIGNATION?
Yes, these courses fulfill the course requirements for the ALC designation.


DO THESE COURSES COUNT TOWARD CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT?
The student would need to check with the accrediting organization in his or her state to see if the course fulfills a CE requirement. 


WILL A CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION BE SENT?
Students who successfully complete the course and pass the examination will receive a certificate of completion noting sixteen contact hours.
