Aubrie Kobernus, MBA, RCE, REALTORS Land Institute

Opening Keynote Speaker

Aubrie Kobernus is an association executive with 20 years of experience in nonprofit management, governmental affairs, real estate, affordable housing, and community development. Born and raised in Memphis, TN, she began her career as a HUD-certified homebuyer education counselor.  After graduating with an MBA in Finance and Non-Profit Management from the George Washington University in Washington, DC, she returned to Memphis to serve as the Governmental Affairs Director of the Memphis Area Association of REALTORS (MAAR). At MAAR, she managed the Governmental Affairs Committee and three subcommittees, the RPAC committee, the Fair and Affordable Housing Committee, the Benevolent Fund Committee, which she worked to convert into a separate 501(c)3 non-profit, and later took on the ad ditional role of serving as the MAAR Commercial Council Director.  After leaving MAAR, she worked as the West TN Liaison for the Tennessee Housing Development Agency where she was responsible for leading THDA’s community lending and relationship-building initiatives throughout the 21 county region. In March 2016, she became the Chief Executive Officer of the REALTORS Land Institute and moved her family to Chicago, IL.  RLI, the Voice of land, is one of the five commercial affiliates of NAR, confers the Accredited Land Consultant Designation (ALC), and is the industry’s leading land real estate organization.


Robert Campbell, General Counsel/Vice President, Missouri REALTORS

Rural Real Estate Issues: Foreign Ownership, Fences, and Boundary Disputes

Robert joined Missouri REALTORS after spending time in private practice where he gained experience in multiple facets of the law, including: contract disputes, business transactions, civil litigation; family law, and criminal litigation. Robert holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the Columbia College in Business Administration with emphases in Marketing and Management and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri School of Law. He is licensed to practice in Missouri and is a member of the Missouri Bar.


Greg Smith, Esq.

Luncheon Keynote Speaker: The 1031 Exchange: The Real Estate Agent’s Best Friend

Greg D. Smith, Esq., manages the territory that includes Ohio, Kentucky, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska for Investment Property Exchange Services, Inc. He was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1996 and is also admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. He received his B.A., magna cum laude, from Kenyon College in 1993, and his J.D. from The Ohio State University College of Law in 1996. He is a member of the honors fraternity Phi Beta Kappa. He practiced Real Estate and Business Law with a downtown Columbus, OH law firm and was with Chicago Title before joining IPX. IPX is a member of the Federation of Exchange Accommodators.

Mr. Smith is a frequent lecturer on the subject of 1031 exchanges. He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Columbus Bar Association (Real Property Section Member), and he was chosen for membership in the Barrister Leader Program. He is a former board member of Homeownership Network Services and has been active in many other volunteer pursuits with Franklin County Children’s Services, the ALS Central & Southern Ohio Chapter, and several other local organizations. He has coached his three kids’ baseball, soccer and basketball teams. He enjoys traveling with his wife, Mara, and the kids.


Boyd L. Harris, ALC, Boyd Harris Companies, Inc.

Land Appraisals

Boyd L. Harris, ALC was raised on a grain and livestock farm in Monroe County, MO, which he still operates. He graduated from Centralia High School in 1982 and attended Northeast Missouri State University for one year, and then returned to the farm. He began his real estate career in 1985, as a sales agent and auctioneer. In 1991, he obtained his General Certified real Estate Appraisee credentials and began a career in rural property valuation, focused on grain and livestock farms with an emphasis on large-scale livestock operations, grain facilities, and rural commercial properties. In 2015 he obtained the Accredited land Consultant designation from the Realtors Land Institute. He served eight years on the Commission, and over 20 years as a Secretary for the Missouri Chapter of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers. During that time, he has mentored, trained, and obtained certification for over a dozen new appraisers. Boyd has sold numerous farms across Missouri over the past three decades, at both negotiated sales and auctions. He is well-versed with multi-parcel real estate auctions, maximizing their use for the benefit of seller and buyer.

David attended Auction School in 2008. He then acquired his real estate license in November 2010. He currently serves as the Owner operator and Managing Broker for Whitaker Marketing Group. Through the years of contract auctioneering, David gained valuable experience and knowledge as an auctioneer and participated in a variety of different auctions nationwide. He is active in the Realtor Land Institute, National Auctioneer Associations and a number of State Auctioneer Associations. With David’s diverse portfolio of education and work experience and his drive to stay continually up-to-date on current market trends, clients look to him as their trusted advisor in farmland sales and acquisitions. After auct ioneering for years and selling millions of dollars in assets, David honed in on his passion for selling farmland and enjoys the challenges that come with it. David and Ann understand that marketing their clients’ assets is the most important aspect of the auction and strives to maintain the position as leader in the industry for marketing. His passion and stage presence has led him to numerous auctioneering championship titles. David and his wife, Ann reside and farm outside Ames, Iowa with their two sons, Colton and Caleb.

David is a Past President and Chairman of the board for the Iowa Auctioneers Association; Past President of the Iowa Realtor Land Institute; and a licensed Sales person in Iowa, Nebraska, and Minnesota.


Cheyne Matzenbacher, Deer Outreach Specialist, Southern MO, National Deer Association

Cheyne Matzenbacher serves as a Deer Outreach Specialist in southern Missouri for the National Deer Association wher e he works with private landowners to establish and support Wildlife and Habitat Cooperatives. He is also on the board of the Missouri Prescribed Fire Council where he assists landowners in establishing Prescribed Burn Associations. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology from Arkansas Tech University. Cheyne is originally from Berryville, Arkansas and currently lives in Blue Eye, Missouri with his wife Amber and daughter Ryleigh. He loves to hunt and fish and enjoys the outdoors.


Gary Homer, Broker/Owner Humboldt Farms & Homes

REALTOR Safety in a Rural Environment (3 hours CE)

Gary Homer is a decorated U.S. Army Veteran of over 22 years. In those 22 years he had the opportunity to attend some of the most challenging leadership courses the Army had to offer. He is one the very small few Military Police Soldiers to have earned the Pathfinder, Airborne, Air Assault and Ranger badges to name a few. While serving he was i nstructor for the Advanced Law Enforcement Training Division known as ALETD. There he served as an instructor for Special Reaction Team Training, Special Reaction Marksman & Observer, Interservice Non-Lethal Weapons Instructor, and Law Enforcement Firearms Train the Trainer courses. While Serving in a normative position out of Fort Bragg with a unit called USA-SATMO or U.S.Army Security Assistance Team Management Organization, He traveled the world teaching foreign militaries in advanced firearms techniques, hostage restraint defeat techniques, Surveillance and Counter surveillance techniques, as well as building clearing and explosive breaching. After retirement he worked for the DoD as an instructor for the Protective Services Detachment, training the executive detachments for across the DoD. He has instructed thousands of Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines, as well as members of the FBI, Secret Service, US Air Marshalls and CIA. He has also trained foreign Military in Poland , Republic of Georgia, Republic of South Korea, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Bosnia, and Germany. His is an SME or Subject Matter Expert in Advanced Firearms training, Hostage Restraint Defeat, Evasive Driving, Surveillance & Counter Surveillance, Executive Protection, Non-lethal weapons, Unarmed Self-defense Techniques, Marksman Observer (law enforcement sniper), Active Shooter Response, Breaching, and Small Unit Tactics in Urban Terrain. He has been in Real Estate now for approximately 4.5 years and saw a need to fill a gap in the training available to agents in regard to safety and preparedness. Russell also serves as the Advocacy Liaison to the REALTORS Land Institute and NAR's Global and Business Affairs Group. Prior to his position with NAR, Russell held positions with the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Governors Association and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
