What is RLI?
The REALTORS® Land Institute, The Voice of Land, provides the expertise, camaraderie, and resources that are the foundation for all land real estate professionals to become the best in the business. RLI is a commercial affiliate of the National Association of REALTORS®.
Through the Land University (LANDU®), RLI delivers high-quality world-class education that builds and strengthens the competency and confidence for land professionals.
Who are RLI members?
RLI members serve all types of land real estate across the country, including agricultural, timber, ranch, and recreational land as well as transitional land, like that used for commercial or residential development.
How many members does RLI have?
RLI has about 2,000 members and over 750 Accredited Land Consultants (ALCs). You can find current member counts here.
Members can belong to National RLI, as well as our state and regional Chapters. RLI has 20 Chapters across the country.

Annual dues for Institute Members are $445. New members are charged a one-time $125 application fee. Dues are prorated first year. Click for the proration schedule.

What events does the REALTORS Land Institute offer?
The REALTORS Land Institute holds several in-person events: The National Land Conference, LANDU Education Bootcamp, LANDU Education Mini-Bootcamp and the Accredited Land Consultant (ALC) Retreat. You can get information on all events here.

RLI offers courses, webinars, and member-only roundtables through the Land University (LANDU).

Do you have to be a member to take LANDU courses?
No, member and non-member pricing are available for LANDU courses. See a chart of cost comparisons for members and non-members.
What course formats do you offer?
LANDU courses are offered online in our VILT (virtual instructor led training) format, at LANDU Education Bootcamp and Mini-Bootcamp in-person, and by RLI Chapters in-person.

- NO. RLI National Courses are not approved for CE Credit. RLI National does not apply for CE Credit nor is familiar with any State’s Real Estate Commission requirements.

About the Accredited Land Consultant (ALC) Designation
What is the ALC?
The Accredited Land Consultants (ALC) Designation certifies that an agent is among the most accomplished, the most experienced, and the most trustworthy land real estate experts across the country.
What does it cost to attain the ALC?

- Six online-VILT courses through RLI National* (at member rate): $3,425 (*learners can take in-person courses through our Chapters. Pricing is determined by the Chapter.)
- Annual membership dues: $445 (+ one-time $125 application fee for new member)
- Once earned, RLI annual membership dues must be kept current to keep the ALC designation active
- ALC Comprehensive Final Exam Prep Course: $99 (Optional)
- ALC Comprehensive Exam Fee: $100
- ALC Application Fee: $350
What are the ALC requirements?

- Complete 6 LANDU Courses (3 Core courses & 3 Specialty courses OR 3 Core courses, 2 Specialty courses & 1 Elective course).

- Land 101: Fundamentals of Land Brokerage
- Land Investment Analysis

- Specialty Courses (Pick two courses)

- Elective Courses (Pick one or Pick another Specialty course)
- Real Estate Mapping Technologies & Techniques
- Timberland Real Estate
- Valuation and Transactions of Energy & Environmental Assets
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in land sales or brokerage or comparable real estate experience.
- A minimum of 5 closed land transactions totaling $15M OR 25 separate land transactions. The value of the land, including improvements that are agricultural in nature, must account for at least 51% of the total sale of the transaction for the transaction to be eligible.
- Pass the ALC Comprehensive Final Exam.
- Attend a National Land Conference within five years of submitting your portfolio.
- Submit a comprehensive portfolio
- Submit recommendation letters and receive approval by the RLI Board of Directors.
